Recipes, Tips and Benefits
Water -We know we need it. We know it is good for us, we know the health benefits, but so many of us don’t drink enough of it. I have tried a variety of things to get me to drink more water. I have tried apps on my phone, alarms on my fitbit, carrying a water bottle with me everywhere, but the number one thing that has worked for me is a combination of two things 1) Infused water 2) checklist in my daily journal/planner (see more here).
I pride myself that I’m not really a picky eater, that I like all sorts of flavours and tastes, but when it comes to water – I need to it taste ‘clean”. I admit I am one of those annoying picky water drinkers.
I tried the flavour packets, or drops that you can add to water, but I didn’t like the idea that I couldn’t pronounce most of the ingredient list, and I didn’t like the ‘fake’ tasting of it. Lemon water is generally what I prefer to drink if I can, but I have also been told, that drinking too much is bad for your teeth due to the acidity of the fruit.
So what does that leave me with?….Herbs. As you may know I have gone through a bit of a life change recently and I am needing to really look at what things I can do to make it better, what changes I can do to help me through anxiety and other feelings. And if I can say “luckily” this new change in my lifestyle happened in the spring when I planted my garden full of fresh herbs and veggies.
Everyday I am able to go out, pick some herbs (my favourite is basil) add it to my water infuser and enjoy it all day, and even into the next (for an even stronger flavour).

So many people like to infuse fruit, but due to the fact that many (lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits) are very acidic, and I’m wanting to drink it all day every day – I’m staying clear of acidic fruits.
I have tried cucumber and strawberries but I honestly don’t like wasting perfectly good fruit when they can be quite pricy up here in Canada.
So my favourite and most economical infusion that my kids love, and ask for over “plain” water is Basil water.
Rip a few leaves off a basil plant (any of the varieties would be great) tear them up or bruise them in a way that lets out the oils, place in any infuser and enjoy.

What I love about Infused Water is that I am getting the benefit of tricking my tastebuds into drinking more water, but then I get the added benefit of the herb that I am infusing. And my favourite herb to infuse is full of wonderful health benefits.
