As a teacher the end of June is always a stressful, crazy time of year, as a mum, it is just as stressful and crazy. But the stress and craziness at the end of June brings the calm, and serenity of summer vacation. Kids are off school, I am off work, the weather is great, and the sun is shining.
This year in particular was a special time, our oldest son just finished his first year of J/K and he did amazingly well. I had a pretty hard time at work and ended up being on stress leave for the last little while at work (something I never thought I would do). So this end of the year is so much more meaningful to us all.
It’s an end to a difficult year, it’s an end to our first being in school all day everyday, it’s an end to packed lunches, rushed mornings, commute to and from work and an end to so many things. But more importantly it is the beginning of something new. The beginning of a new chapter, of a new chance of a new opportunity.
I wanted to do something special to mark this new change. So after we picked him up at school, and said a tearful goodbye to his teacher (he is switching schools to be in French Immersion) we met some great friends, and we went for an adventure walk.
We had a great time looking at different leaves, smelling different wild flowers, exploring, watching the dogs have a swim, listening to the kids laugh and giggle together. It was just perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better finish, to a difficult year.
Laughing kids, my husband, good friends, outdoors, a walk, an adventure, and the beginnings of something great.
Now bring on the swimming, the beach, the pool, family time, hikes, walks, bike rides, friends, drinks, picnics, scavenger hunts, and so much more.
Cheers to a great end and to something better.
